CUSTOMS REQUIREMENTS FOR JERSEY

Before sending goods to Jersey, it’s essential to understand its import regulations. Although Jersey is not part of the European Union, certain rules apply due to its relationship with the UK and EU customs frameworks. Post-Brexit, shipping to Jersey has become slightly more complex, with extra checks, tariffs, and regulations.

Parcels entering Jersey from outside its borders may be subject to customs and duty fees, typically charged to the recipient. UK-based senders are required to include a commercial invoice when shipping products. This document helps customs officials determine whether imported items are subject to duties or VAT and, if so, how much to charge.

Find out how Brexit affects your shipping plans and costs on our dedicated page. At PACK & SEND, we’re here to provide expert packing and shipping solutions tailored to your needs.

Certain packages may be exempt from customs charges, such as personal effects and gifts, provided they meet Jersey’s import criteria. However, VAT exemptions may not apply to all parcels, as Jersey operates under its own tax system.

Make sure your package complies with the applicable customs regulations by following the guidance issued by the Jersey Customs & Immigration Service. For more details, consult their official website.

Common pitfalls to avoid include:

  • Failing to complete customs paperwork correctly (e.g., leaving sections incomplete or placing information in the wrong fields).
  • Attempting to send prohibited or restricted items.
  • Providing vague item descriptions (e.g., instead of “clothes,” specify “2 x men’s cotton shirts, made in Italy”).
  • Omitting the necessary licences and certificates for specific items.

At PACK & SEND, we have extensive experience navigating Jersey’s customs requirements and work closely with our clients to ensure full compliance.

SHIPPING RESTRICTIONS TO JERSEY

Jersey has its own set of import regulations, which are separate from the EU’s, but often aligned with international standards.

It’s important to confirm which items can be imported, in what quantities, and which items are prohibited. Failure to comply may result in parcels being returned or destroyed, often with additional charges.

Examples of restricted or prohibited items include:

  • Prohibited: Weapons, explosives, and certain controlled substances.
  • Restricted: Certain food items like meat, milk, and dairy. Additional documentation may be required for restricted goods.

For comprehensive guidance, consult the Jersey Customs & Immigration Service website.
