CUSTOMS REQUIREMENTS FOR THE NETHERLANDS

When shipping parcels to The Netherlands, make sure you’re up to date with the country’s shipping regulations – as well as those for all EU nations. 

Parcels sent to Europe from the UK are now subject to additional checks, fees and regulations, post-Brexit. Parcels will not only be subject to customs and duty fees, but senders will also have to complete a commercial invoice. This is so customs officials can identify the contents of a package and apply the relevant import duties accordingly.

Items intended as gifts, or any personal effects, are not subject to customs charges, provided they follow the import guidelines for The Netherlands. To see if you qualify for Customs Duty and VAT-free allowance, check the shipping instructions laid out on the UK government website.

SHIPPING RESTRICTIONS TO THE NETHERLANDS

For example, import restrictions to The Netherlands include certain animal and plant products, or currency at the value of €10,000 or more in cash. Counterfeit goods, prescription or illegal drugs and weapons, ammunition and even dummy firearms are also all off-limits. 

ADDRESSING PARCELS TO THE NETHERLANDS

Addressing parcels to The Netherlands is slightly different to domestic UK mail. 

Titles appear on the first line of the address, road names and house numbers appear on the second line, and postcodes (consisting of 4 numbers and 2 letters) – followed by the town or city name – appear on the third line.

Round off the address with the destination country, to avoid any delays or mix-ups.
