If you’re shipping internationally to anywhere from the UK, you’ll need to complete customs documents. This will be a commercial invoice. When you work with PACK & SEND, we’ll provide these for you and even help you complete them.
Its important customs documentation is completed in detail, otherwise, you risk your delivery being delayed or having its contents rejected or destroyed. For example, if you’re sending clothes items, don’t simply write ‘clothes’, but specify ‘2x white cotton t-shirts, made in England’.
Customs charges for imports to South Africa are typically charged to the recipient. However, goods valued up to 500 ZAR are exempt from duty and VAT.
International mail must follow the address format of its destination country to avoid confusion or delays in delivery.
Mail to South Africa should include the receiver’s name on the first line, with the house number and street name on the second line.
The city goes on the third line, followed by a 4-digit postcode on the fourth line. Add SOUTH AFRICA, in block capitals, underneath.
For example:
Mr Jan Alleman 88 Umbilo Rd Durban 4013 SOUTH AFRICA
Some rural areas of South Africa may collect mail at a local PO box. In this case, the local post office branch and PO box number replace the residential street address.
