‘Simply put, PACK & SEND consistently goes the extra mile when it comes to handling my account. It would not be possible to do what I do without a true partner in shipping and collections and I have come to view PACK & SEND as exactly that.’
J.D. Powe is an American entrepreneur with a deep love of natural history and evolutionary biology. His collection of antique taxidermy specimens has grown to become one of largest private collections in the world. Beyond just a personal interest, J.D. curates exhibitions at museums and educational institutions and lectures on topics related to species conservation.
Packing and shipping stuffed animals of all species is an art form and PACK & SEND have become a trusted partner for J.D., helping to build his collection of rare specimens by shipping hundreds of pieces to him gathered from auctions houses and top private collections all over the UK.
Packing is one challenge as these are full size specimens, typically antique, often very fragile. The majority are mounted in equally fragile Victorian glass cases or under domes.
The other challenge is the paperwork required to get them out of the U.K. and through US customs and the Fish & Wildlife Service requires incredible attention to detail. Species identification is critical as many are now endangered species and, although they pre-date the Convention, they nonetheless require CITES export permits to be transported legally.
The team at PACK & SEND Richmond Park photograph and catalogue the specimens, verify the species in consultation with J.D and other experts based in the UK, then handle all the CITES applications, UK customs validation and ultimately the shipping.
