Customs requirements for Hong Kong

All deliveries to Hong Kong require accurate customs documentation. This will be a commercial invoice. Get in touch with your shipping agent to find out more about these documents and how to complete them.

It’s important to complete these accurately and in detail, or you risk your packages being delayed, returned at cost or even destroyed.

For example, instead of writing ‘souvenirs’, describe the items in detail, like ‘3x small fridge magnets with London skyline print’. This helps speed up checks at the border and avoid delivery delays.

Customs duty fees are only collected on imports valued at over HKD4,000 so the recipient won’t need to pay any charges to receive their items. However, this excludes items like alcohol and tobacco, which are subject to import charges.

Addressing mail to Hong Kong

Addressing post to Hong Kong isn’t too dissimilar from domestic UK mail.

The receiver’s name goes on the first line, with the flat number, floor number, building name and block number on the second line.

The building address goes on the third line, with the city or district on the fourth line in BLOCK CAPITALS.

The last line should include ‘HONG KONG’, in capital letters. There is no need to reference China, as Hong Kong has its own postal system.

For example:

Mr Chan Tai Man
Flat B, 7/F, The Plaza, Block 5
60 Yi Lun St.
SAN PO KONG
HONG KONG
