Any international deliveries from the UK require a customs form. This includes details on the parcel’s contents and helps avoid delays when the shipment arrives in Switzerland.
This will be a commercial invoice. When you work with a courier service, they’ll provide these forms for you and help you complete them accurately.
Completing these means providing plenty of detail about the contents of your package. For example, if you’re sending skiing equipment in advance of your holiday, don’t simply write ‘skiing equipment’. Instead, state ‘pair of Rossignol skis in black, approx. 3.4kg’.
Any customs fees will be charged to the recipient, so bear this in mind when sending to friends and family. However, packages intended as gifts are exempt from charges, where the contents are valued up to 100 CHF.
Otherwise, packages valued above 5 CHF will be subject to customs duty and VAT and additional taxes will be levied on parcels valued 65 CHF and over.
Check Switzerland’s unique import rules before attempting to send items, or you risk having your package returned to you at a charge or even destroyed.
