CUSTOMS REQUIREMENTS FOR FRANCE

Because France is in the EU, there are additional regulations to consider on top of the country’s unique import rules.

Parcels making their way onto EU soil face customs and duty fees – charged to the recipient  plus, more stringent import regulations. UK senders need to complete a commercial invoice, declaring the contents of the parcel, so the receiving country can calculate how much import duty will be charged.

Find out everything you need to know about Shipping to EU countrieson our dedicated page. At PACK & SEND, we’re always happy to chat through the shipping options available to you.

Keeping the Paper trail Intact

Personal items and gifts will not face customs charges, assuming they follow France’s import guidelines. However, to make sure you qualify for the Customs Duty and VAT-free allowance, follow the shipping instructions laid out by the UK government.

Some common mistakes include:

  • Not filling in the paperwork correctly (putting information in the wrong place or missing sections entirely)
  • Sending prohibited or restricted items
  • Being too vague or not giving enough detail – e.g., instead of just saying ‘clothes’, state ‘2x men’s cotton shirts, made in England’
  • Sending items without the correct licenses and certificates

PACK & SEND has over 30 years of experience dealing with European import regulations and customs restrictions. With our guidance, your package gets to its destination safely and without delays.

SHIPPING RESTRICTIONS FOR FRANCE

In addition to EU import regulations, every independent nation has its own unique customs guidelines, specific to the region. France is no different.

Whatever you’re looking to ship, it’s important to understand exactly what can and cannot be imported, what’s prohibited and any quantity or weight limits.

For example, France’s restricted items include up to 20kg of fish and seafood or up to 1 litre of spirits (exceeding 24% alcohol vol)Counterfeit goods and certain types of nuts are also banned. Be sure to look at the full list of  prohibited and restricted items before sending.

PACK & SEND is an expert in global customs regulations. We not only check your packages for any problematic items but we’ll also run you through all of our shipping options to guarantee timely delivery, too.

ADDRESSING PARCELS TO FRANCE

Addressing parcels to France is a little different from labelling domestic parcels.

The receiver’s title and first and surnames go on the top line, with the surname written in capitals for clarity. The second line should feature the house number and road. And a five-digit postcode and the city go on the third line.

For example:

M Jean DUPORT
33 Place de la Madeleine
75008 PARIS
FRANCE
